Become Visionary

Visionary thinking is applying intelligent imagination to a positive possible future. To become visionary, make visionary thinking habitual.

My best friend shared a recording studio with Lady Gaga before she was famous. Gaga told her, “Every night I go to sleep envisioning I'm playing at Madison Square Garden.” Bestie didn’t know if this chick was insane or a genius. It turns out, it didn’t matter. Gaga’s time spent practicing her vision primed her mind, body, and spirit to align toward her goal, which she, inarguably, crushed.

Faith is believing in something we can’t see. It takes faith to believe in our potential. At least part of you does. Let’s let that visionary part of you lead more.

Notice
To change a habit, first notice it. In general, how do you think about the future? Do you see what can go wrong? What is possible? Or, like one client, a cliff?

The first time I led a vision exercise with a new Success Circles cohort, one woman stopped me after, shaken. At the part where she was supposed to see her success, she fell off a cliff. I reassured her that she was not going to fall off a cliff at the end of this six-month training and to keep practicing envisioning in each Success Circles session, as we do!

Noticing our habits is when we realize the work ahead. Like opening that old junk drawer, it can feel daunting. And the trickiest part is done.

Practice
Thinking patterns are hard to change because they're continuous. Right now, I’m trying to shift a bad breathing habit. I remember, and it's hard to do. I forget, and I'm disappointed. Shifting our thinking is like this. Stay in it, breath by breath.

Remind
Find a simple and accessible reminder to help shift you back to positive possible future thinking. Consider a phrase, photograph, or color.

Reward
Be on the lookout for evidence of your positive possible future becoming present reality. Make a list on your phone or computer. Celebrate the subtle! The more we become aware of the positive, the more energy we can pour into it, reinforcing our new way of seeing. This will help you stay motivated as you become the visionary you are- right now- envisioning yourself to be.
