The Power of Being Willing to Walk

This leap year, let’s talk about the power of being willing to go.

A client fell in love with a piece of art at a street fair. She bonded with the artist. They discussed the price. She walked. By the time she was home, he was calling her to meet the price. She’s now a first time art owner. And she knows the power of being willing to walk. When it comes to valuing us, people meet our price. Our worth is demonstrated in our self-honoring choices.

I never push a person to stay or go from a job, relationship, or art fair. This would go against my highest service: Helping you realize your sovereignty. This is a service both to individuals and to the organizations and institutions that hire me. Top contributors are those who know their sovereignty and have chosen to stay. Since what matters most to them can neither be given or taken away, these are the people willing to do the right thing. They have integrity.

Another client realized she was willing to walk if it meant going against her core values. She was in a meeting with senior leaders who were making a decision that put earnings above patient welfare. Her hand shot up. She spoke clearly on behalf of patients. Her willingness to walk fortified her to serve.

Women tend to outstay men in organizations and institutions. In this way, we women are pillars of workplace communities. And, as women, we can make loyalty a virtue and not a vice by being clear on what we are being loyal to. Be loyal to your highest service.

A client just came to the realization that she's willing to go if she can't expand her contribution. She cares deeply about her team and their work. And she cannot stay in a place prevents growth. She’s willing to walk. When this unlock happened, she said, “I feel so much lighter, Lucia!” That's liberation.

By being loyal to your highest service, in whatever shape that takes, you can assess and shift dynamically. However long you stay or however far you go, you can serve with your whole spirit and be valued for it. Sure-footed and ready should the leap present itself.
