Doubts Are Questions You Haven't Asked
Are you indecisive…. or not asking questions? A doubt is a question you haven’t asked. It can be easier to sit in doubt rather than ask questions. It’s also paralyzing. In bridging the gap from doubt to decision—- translate your doubt into a question(s).
.
You get to make decisions based on your commitments to yourself. The more awareness you build, the more clearly you see your options, the more solidly you can commit – and move from paralysis to decisiveness.
.
Try this simple process in a journal:
1. Translate - doubt into question(s)
2. Ask- and gather intel until you see options
3. Commit- make a solid commitment to yourself
4. Decide- choose your route accordingly
Example: on navigating applying for a bigger role
1. Doubt: will this role negatively impact my time with my children?
Question: what’s the hard line re virtual work?
2. Ask and gather intel. Then move to 3.
3. Commit- I'll take my at home Fridays and turn work phone off all weekend.
4. Decide- I am pursuing this opportunity.
.
In navigating a big transition, you'll likely repeat this process many, many times for doubts- big, small, and odd- that pop up along the way. This is the work of onboarding your whole self towards the best direction for you now. It’s weird. It’s a process. Once it’s complete, you’ll know. : )
