Why Connected Leadership "Journey"?
While I’m as proud a member of Bachelor Nation as any millennial who survived lockdown single, this is not why I use the phrase.*
Words reveal thinking. And we can consciously choose words to encourage more generative ways of thinking. In our work, we encourage a "growth" verses a “fixed" mindset. (See the work of Carol Dweck).
A growth mindset perceives the self as ever-changing based on the choices of the moment. A fixed mindset perceives the self as unchanging with a set of skills and beliefs. Anytime we speak of ourselves in absolutes, we’re indicating a fixed mindset at play. If you’ve ever had the thought, “I am..." you were likely operating from a fixed mindset.
Success Circlers develop the capacity to operate from a growth mindset more often. In this way, Circlers take an active stance in their evolution towards the connected leaders they envision.
The shift from a fixed to a growth mindset can happen in a moment. And the image of the journey is a prompt to shift us back. From this more generative, more true way of seeing, we continue.
Just as there’s no stop point to your growth, there’s no stop point to the connected leadership journey—only the opportunity to see more and continue. Indeed, at the “end” of the 6-month Success Circles program, the thing I hear most often is a sense of expanded opportunities. The landscape broadens. Our journey continues.
*Notes from Bachelor/Bachelorette Journeys to Find Love: Not every season ends in engagement; not every engagement ends in marriage; most couples split. The only promise is growth. Whether or not contestants grow in virtue depends on the choices they make along the way. Similarly, the connected leadership journey does not promise a specific external reward. What is promised is growth towards a version of yourself worthy of your final rose.
Your journey to become the connected leader you envision can start... now. Learn about our first ever open-application Success Circles program. 🌹
